For Guests Planning to trek Happo Pond (Updated: July 25, 2026)

Please read the following information before your visit.

◼︎Two Ways to Access the Happo Pond Trailhead (Happo-ike Sanso)
Happo Alpine Line
Take the Happo Gondola and two chairlifts from the base of Happo-One to Happo-ike Sanso trailhead, where the hiking trail to Happo Pond begins.  (Approx. 30 minutes ride time)

Kurobishi Skyline
Drive your own vehicle to Kurobishi mid-station, then take two chairlifts to Happo-ike Sanso.
(Approx. 20 minutes drive + 15 minutes lift ride)

◼︎From the Trailhead to Happo Pond 
 The hike from Happo-ike Sanso to Happo Pond takes approximately 90 minutes uphill and 60 minutes downhill.
(Total round trip: approx. 2 hours and 30 minutes)

The trail is rocky and uneven, we recommend wearing hiking boots or comfortable walking shoes and clothing suitable for outdoor activity.

Please Note:
・Your shoes and clothing may get muddy and wet.

︎Beyond Happo Pond (Towards Mt.Karamatsu)
 Mt. Karamatsu (Elev. 2,696m), one of the most popular introduction peaks in the Northern Japanese Alps. However, it is still a serious alpine mountain with rapidly changing weather and steep rocky ridges.
Mountain accidents can be life-threatening. Climbers require proper climbing equipment, suitable clothing, and adapted mountain experiences. Please prepare thoroughly before your climb and enjoy the mountain safely.
If you plan to hike beyond Happo Pond, you are required to submit a mountain climbing registration form in advance. It is available online, at the Happo Gondola Base Station, or at Happo-ike Sanso. 

◼︎ Last Chairlift Downhills Service 
The last downhill chairlift from Happo-ike Sanso departs at 4:30 PM.
Please make sure you arrive at the downhill chairlift boarding area before 4:30 PM. 

To allow plenty of time for your trek and return before the last chairlift, we recommend starting your hiking to Happo Pond no later than 1PM. 

 ■Restrooms 
The restrooms at Happo-ike Sanso and Cairn No,2 use water pumped from a mountain stream located approximately 1km from Happo Pond.
 If the water supply runs low, these restrooms need to be closed.

◼︎ Dining Information 
 Usagidaira: Cafeteria Yeti, Hakuba Mountain Beach, Usagidaira Cafe
Kurobisidaira : European Restaurant &cafe Pilar
Trailhead (Happo-ike Sanso):  accommodation only. The restaurant is closed during summer season 

After rainfall, sections of the trail may become slippery and muddy, and your clothing and shoes may get dirty. Please wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear. 

◼︎ Kurobishi No,3 Sunrise Lift Operation 
On selected dates Kurobishi No,3 chairlift operates an early morning service for guests wishing to enjoy the sunrise.

During the special sunrise operation, only Kurobishi No,3 Pair Lift is in service.The Grat Quad Chairlift does not operate during this time. If you wish to head toward Happo-ike Sanso before the Grat Quad Chairlift opens, please use the hiking trail from Kurobishidaira or wait until the Grat Quat chairlift begins operation.
